Dictators in Italy and Germany
Before the war began two dictators rose into power in both Germany and Italy. Their names were Adolf Hitler (pictured on the bottom) and Benito Mussolini (pictured on the top). Adolf Hitler was leader of the Nazi (National Socialist German Workers' Party) which first rose up as a way to combat communism after the first world war. Hitler Came into power in the early 1930s, after world war 1. Hitler was elected under the shadow of the Treaty of Versailles. Most of what Hitler did before the war was go directly against the treaty of versailles. He developed his army further than the limit that was set, he annexed Czechoslovakia, and took over the Rhineland's. Meanwhile on the same continent hundreds of miles away Benito Mussolini, Leader of the National fascist party, prime minister of Italy. Whom gave the pope his own country. These two leaders allied in the second world war along with Japan to form the Axis powers. Mussolini did not rule with the entirety of Italy behind his back as instead of surrendering to the Allied powers he was overthrown. Where as Hitler killed himself before the Allies marched into his city.
